How to Build a Portfolio as a Beginner Virtual Assistant

Starting out with no client experience? That’s okay. You can still create a powerful portfolio that gets you noticed.

1. Identify Your Services
Are you offering admin support? Social media management? Inbox organisation? Define what you do best.

2. Create Sample Projects
Build fake client projects that show your skills—write email drafts, create a sample content calendar, or design a mock-up spreadsheet.

3. Use Free Tools
Use Canva for presentations, Notion for documentation, and Google Docs/Sheets for editable samples.

4. Build a Simple Website or Google Drive Folder
Your portfolio doesn’t need to be fancy. Use Google Sites or a shared Google Drive folder with your work samples and a short bio.

5. Add Testimonials
Ask friends or colleagues you’ve helped to write short feedback notes you can include. Collect them via Google Forms for convenience.

Pro Tip: Update your portfolio regularly. As you gain real client work, replace mock projects with real results.
